Apple have recently announced the launched of its new iPhones in the form of iPhone 8 and iPhone X. The iPhone 8 is currently available in the market for purchase, but the much anticipated iPhone X will only be available from November.
The iPhone X is a special celebratory device designed to mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone line.
There are various new features which are only available on the new iPhone X model.
Size
Here’s how the physical dimensions of the iPhone X and iPhone 8 compare:
However, the physical size is not directly proportional to the screen size. Although the physical dimensions of the iPhone X are smaller than iPhone 8 Plus, it still manages to provide a larger screen size.
Camera’s
Front Camera
The iPhone 8 models come with a 7MP FaceTime HD camera with Retina Flash. However, iPhone X contains a 7MP TrueDepth front camera with Portrait mode and Portrait lighting. The Face ID feature is made possible due to this TrueDepth camera.
Back Camera
The new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X include a 12MP camera. However both the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 Plus have two cameras on the back to help with the portrait shots.
Home Button
The big visible difference between the iPhone X model and the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is the missing Home Button. In order to display a larger screen, Apple has all together removed the Home Button from iPhone X. This required changes to the interface and functionality of the iPhone. The Touch ID in the iPhone8 and 8 Plus is replaced with a Face Id in the iPhone X. Also, rather than hitting the Home Button to get to the main screen, the user has to now swipe across the screen.
Authentication
Touch Id
Both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will continue to support the Touch Id used in the existing iPhone range.
Face Id
The iPhone X has introduced the concept of Face Identification, by making use of its front facing 7MP TrueDepth camera. This means rather than pressing the Home Button to access the iPhone or to make a payment, users will be able to simply look at the phone and authenticate access via their Face Recognition. Various concerns have been raised on how this technology will be utilised, but for now we need to wait for the iPhone X to hit the market.
The iPhone 8, 8 Plus and the X come with Wireless charging, using Qi chargers. While the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have the option of Gold/ Silver/ Space Grey colours, the iPhone X will only come in Space Grey and Silver. All three phones will use the new A11 Bionic chip with a 64-bit architecture.
We are keenly awaiting the availability of iPhone X to be able to actually compare the three handsets.
