In 2013, residential developer Taylor Wimpey launched its ambitious sustainability strategy. It believes being a responsible homebuilder, and making its business operations more sustainable, makes sound business sense. Taylor Wimpey approached us to build a tool to help it manage its supply and use of a business critical material: soil.
Following consultation with site managers, soil experts and operational staff, we developed ReUSE, a desktop app to identify excess and deficit soil across Taylor Wimpey’s operations.
ReUSE encourages collaboration amongst staff with its booking feature and calculates the cost efficiency of transporting soil between sites. The app also allows non-expert users to comply with waste legislation, and the Code of Practice set out by independent industry body CL:AIRE.
By 2013, Taylor Wimpey launched the ReUSE soil sharing programme across all its regional business operations. Following the roll out, Taylor Wimpey has reported financial benefits and significant headway addressing its target to reduce construction waste.
ReUSE was highly commended in the Waste category of the Constructing Excellence National Awards 2012
