Construction Competency Manager
Web-based competency management solution for National Grid to help them manage their contractors / sub-contractors more effectively.
Project Scope
National Grid Property & Holdings were looking for an online / web-based management portal to help them manage and fulfil their legal obligation under the CDM regulations to only engage with competent contractors. Specifically, they were looking for a self-managed system with access to all potential contractors or sub-contractors. They wanted to move away from manual paper-based system which slowed down the entire process of approving the contractors, towards a more transparent and online system.
Methodologies Used
As we form part of the RSK Group, our EHS technical consultants provide CDM co-ordination support services. We collaborated with the specialists in the EHS team to work out a detailed process/work-flow.
We developed a web-based portal with distinct access type. This tool was developed using ASP.NET technologies and Microsoft SQL Server as back-end database. The entire project was managed using agile methodologies. The technical team at RSK Business Solutions worked closely with the EHS specialists at RSK Group as part of the design process. This ensure we are not just delivering a technical solution to National Grid, but also maintained the consistencies and checks required for successful compliance of the CDM legislations.
Final Deliverable
The Competency management system has been live in the production environment for over 5 years now.
This includes the online health and safety assessment templates, live record of contractor competencies and fully transparent completion, submission and approval processes.
The automated email reminders issued by system ensures all parties can take appropriate actions to maintain their competence. Also included is ranking system for contractor competence based on uniform scoring mechanism.
